LAHORE - PPP’s central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo on Monday said that govt should initiate treason proceedings against Pervez Musharraf for overthrowing an elected government on October 12, 1999.

In a Press statement, he termed the development an attempt by the govt to deflect attention from the Rawalpindi tragedy. He said that the Supreme Court had already directed the Federal government to initiate action against the former President under Article 6 of the Constitution.  The government, he said, should take a start from October 12 instead of November 3; otherwise, he added, the move would be perceived as victimisation.

Wattoo believed that government was doing so to regain its lost popularity.
