WASHINGTON - Pakistan Army Chief of Staff General Raheel Sharif discussed with the US Central Command leader Gen Lloyd Austin a number of security issues, including Indian aggression along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region, at their meeting in Tampa, Florida, on Monday, according to a Pakistani military spokesman.

General Sharif gave Pakistan’s perspective on regional security, improving Pakistan-Afghanistan military relations, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations Major-Gen Asim Bajwa, said in a twitter message. The tensions in Kashmir along the Line of Control also came under discussion.

The talks, held at Centcom Headquarters Tampa, Florida, focused on regional security and stability.

The Centcom commander paid tributes to Pakistan Army for its commitment, professionalism and achievement in fight against terror, Bajwa said. The US general also praised Pakistan’s ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation.

Earlier, Gen Austin personally received Gen Sharif with a military honour guard.

On Tuesday, Gen Sharif arrived at Pentagon and was given Army Guard of Honour.  He was then scheduled to hold meetings with Robert Works, Deputy Secretary Defence; General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Gen. Raymond Odierno, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Gen Joseph Dunford, Commandant of the Marine Corps.
