Veteran politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has said that the deal had been finalized with the government on Imran Khan’s sit-in and the government had expressed conditional agreement on Nawaz Sharif’s resignation.

“However, PTI dubbed the deal suspicious and presented the name of Gen Raheel Sharif as guarantor which was termed by the government as facilitator,” he added while talking to the journalists here the other day. He said that the government had accepted almost all demands of PTI but the PTI’s team holding talks with the government had no trust in the government and therefore it demanded Gen Raheel Sharif as guarantor.

To a query, he said that the demand for mid-term election was constitutional and genuine but the demands should be made in a democratic way. He said that political parties were the beauty of democracy and we should not talk of abolishing any political party. “Instead the government should promote political parties,” he suggested. He was of the opinion that Imran Khan should be given liberty to stage protest. He said that the democracy would flourish only if the country had political parties.

He said that the future of a secure Pakistan lied in democracy. “All including government, opposition and dharna walas need to find a way out through democratic struggle,” he added.
