The Punjab government had increased agricultural research allocations up to 200 per cent, claimed agriculture minister Dr Farrukh Javed while addressing at wheat sowing inauguration event at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad on Tuesday.

The minister informed that last year 19.5 million tons production of wheat was achieved and a progressive grower obtained 98 maunds wheat production per acre in wheat production competition. Highlighting the various government measures for the benefit of the farmers, the minister stated that despite lower wheat prices in international market the government has fixed wheat support price Rs1300 per 40kg to ensure equitable returns to the farming community. He said that the government has fixed prices of urea fertilizer at Rs.1765/- per bag so that farmers can obtain fertilizers at reasonable prices. He informed that government was monitoring fertilizer rates on daily basis and taking strict actions against the persons indulging in black marketing and profiteering. The minister advised the growers to complete wheat sowing in first three weeks of November. Talking to journalists, the minister informed that the govt has fixed sugarcane prices 180 rupees per maund and through local administration the sugar mill owners have made duty bound to make cane payment within a week time, he added.
