All-out efforts to restore old names of Islamabad colleges

Islamabad - Capital Administration and Development Division’s Secretary Khalid Hanif has said that he would make every possible effort to restore the old names of Federal Government Colleges functioning in the Islamabad Capital Territory, which are now known as Islamabad Model Colleges.
The secretary was addressing a ceremony held at the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College F-7/2 yesterday.
The federal colleges were denied their identity under the programme of uniformity in the institutions of Islamabad on the day (Novemebr 18, 2010) when the then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani directed to change the nomenclature from F.G Colleges to Islamabad Model Colleges.
The motive behind the change of nomenclature was the uniformity of education, not mere change in name. But the teachers and students of the ex-FG colleges are not happy with the change in name because it has not contributed to the structural reforms.
The announcement of the secretary CADD was welcomed and appreciated by the teachers and students because it was the longstanding demand of F.G Colleges’ teachers. Federal Government College achers Association (FGCTA) has also welcomed this announcement.
In response to the demand of FGCTA for early meeting of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), secretary CADD also directed the Director General FDE to prepare and send the promotion cases to CADD at the earliest. He also ensured the early meeting for time scale cases.
He congratulated the students who got the medals and praised the students for a good discipline. He also announced coming Friday as holiday for the students of F-7/2 college.
DG FDE Moin Uddin Ahmad Wani, representatives of FGCTA, Principals of FG colleges and a large number of students and teachers were present on the occasion.
