PCS judges ‘not being paid pension’

ISLAMABAD -  The PCS judges in Punjab are not being paid pension in sheer violation of Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution as well as Punjab Pension Rules, says former senior civil judge Hameed Jilani who has been denied pension for past over 16 years.

He, on behalf of, PCS judges appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this indifference and apathy of the authorities toward their genuine cases and direct the government to make arrangements for immediate release of their pension.

Narrating his ordeal, he said that he had written at least 60 letters to the Prime Minister and the chief minister Punjab to help release his pension as he would be requiring Rs1.6 million for his cancer treatment and to make arrangement for the marriage of his daughter.

Another PCS judge had committed suicide due to his financial woes because he could not withstand the pressing financial needs of his family while on the concerned authorities were not paying any heed to their genuine demand of pension release. The PCS judges demanded of the concerned authorities to give due consideration to their cases and resolve the issue for the collective welfare of these retired judges otherwise the retired judges would be left with no choice but to commit suicide like one of their colleagues had done.
