LAHORE - The City Traffic Police (CTP) Saturday organised a seminar and awareness walk about causes of road traffic accidents, in connection with World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims .

The United Nations observes the day the third Sunday of November every year. The purpose of the day is to remember victims of road crashes, pointing out causes behind these crashes and taking steps to ensure safe travel on roads.

The CTP also organises seminars and walks to commemorate the day every year to raise awareness among public. On Saturday, a seminar and walk was also organised in which Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ijaz Ahmad, Chairman TRSP Khursheed-uz-Zaman, Safety Manager Atlas Honda Tasleem Shuja and a large number of transporters and children participated.

Speaking on the occasion, the CTO said that hundreds of thousands of innocent lives have been lost so far due to road accidents, adding that violation of traffic rules and irresponsible behavior of the drivers were the main reasons behind these accidents. Traffic rules were introduced for safety of the commuters and compliance of the rules ensured their safety and other people on the roads, he maintained.

The CTP was taking steps to ensure participation of citizens for reduction in road accidents, public awareness and safe travel on roads, the CTO said and added that they were delivering lectures for the purpose. Later, the participants, carrying placards inscribed with different message for creating awareness regarding traffic laws and pictures of traffic accident victims , held a walk on Bund Road . On November 19 (Sunday), the CTP will also hold a seminar and walk on Faisal Chowk, The Mall.
