Bank robbery ‘foiled’, five suspects held

LAHORE   -  Dolphins Police Force thwarted a bank robbery by arresting five gunmen in Lahore’s Green Town, police sources said on Sunday.

A police spokesman said that the dacoits had entered the bank with the help of a security guard and they were collecting cash and gold ornaments when police patrolling units reached the spot.  The police also recovered Rs 90 million and 15 kilogram gold ornaments from their possession. The arrested bandits were identified by police as Mazhar, Syed Muhammad, Ahmad Shah, Kamal Hussain, and security guard Sadaqat Hussain. The suspects are residents of Kurram Agency, Parachinar, Hangu, and Peshawar.

SP (Dolphins Police) Bilal Zafar told reporters that the police response units were sent to the site soon after they received a call on the emergency helpline Rescue-15 about the bank robbery. The caller informed the police that some suspected persons were roaming around the bank building located near Ghazi Chowk.

“The dacoits had entered the bank when the police reached the spot,” the officer said. The police cordoned off the area and launched the operation. He said the dacoits initially offered resistance but the police managed to capture all of them.

Lahore DIG (Operations) Waqas Nazir appreciated the policemen over successful operation and announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team.
