CJP constitutes larger bench to form JIT to probe Model town case

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday has ordered to constitute a full bench of Supreme Court (SC) to establish a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the 2014 Model Town incident.

Bisma Amjad, a woman affected by the incident, had filed a petition requesting constitution a new JIT to probe the killings of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in the incident

CJP has ordered that the full bench will hear the petition on December 5 in Islamabad.

The head of the bench remarked that the bench will comprise five judges including him and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa. There will be the representation of other provinces on the bench as well.

Dr Tahir ul Qadri, chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) told the court that their case has come to zero level due to the indictment of former IG Mushtaq Sukhera. New JIT is constituted to probe the case anew.

The court had issued notices to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former chief minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shari, Chaudhry Nisar, Tauqir Shah, Azam Suleman and Mushtaq Sukhera.

The affectees of Model town incident also staged a demonstration outside SC Lahore registry which was attended by a large number of women. The protesters were carrying placards and pictures of Shuhada model town.

It may be mentioned CJP Mian Saqib Nisar on October 06 had taken suo moto notice on the plea of Bisma Amjid, an affected in model town carnage.
