Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) President Altaf Shakoor has said that the release and repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui would improve the image of the country and increase the value and worth of our green passport.
In a statement issued on Monday, he said that the members of parliament, cabinet, government and institutions should work together to ensure the early repatriation of the daughter of the nation. He said that this should be considered as national obligation.
“During last 15 years Dr Aafia has been receiving inhumane treatment, which should be stopped now,” he added. Altaf Shakoor said that the federal minister Ali Muhammad Khan has rightly said that our heads would hang in shame till Dr Aafia is rejoined with her family. Shakoor said, “We cannot return the 15 wasted years to Dr Aafia and her children, but at least her repatriation could be sought without wasting more time.”
He said that the return of Aafia would increase our national honour and we would be able to tell the world that we are a principled nation and we do not compromise on respect and honor of our daughters. The PDP leader said that the detention of Aafia was a blemish on Pakistan’s face and the leaders should shun our insensitiveness towards this important issue.
He further said that the holders of the green passport feel insecure aboard and steps should be taken to make the green passport a powerful and respected passport in the world. “After the return of Aafia, Pakistan would enter into a new phase and its economy would also boost. People would feel them protected and safe and they would work hard to make the country prosperous without any foreign loan,” he added.
