Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday while imposing fine of Rs 100 million on cement factory of well-known business tycoon Mian Mansha for lying in court and stealing water has wrapped up suo moto notice.
The CJP has also directed that the fine amount donated in dams fund. The court has imposed on factory fine amounting to Rs 20 million for lying and Rs 80 million on utilizing the underground water.
A two -member bench of the SC presided over by the Justice Saqib Nisar took up the case filed against cement factories upon extracting water from the soil and Katas Raj in SC Lahore registry for hearing today.
During the course of hearing, CJP remarked, “We are suspending water supply to cement factories as owners of cement factories say that they had stored water from rain.”
“Owners of cement factories have spoken lie as water was extracted through tube wells and therefore they have to pay fine and deposit it in the dam fund for water they have used till yet Cement factory should deposit Rs 100 million to dam fund.”
It was said in the report presented before the court that DG Cement extracted water from the soil through tubewell.
The top court barred the factories from extracting water through tubewell and disposed of the case.
