A sumptuous life, materialistic artifacts and altruism have enslaved us so much that we have forgotten about the indigent and their sufferings. Their bereavement can never be felt by anyone; because the torment of others cannot be felt until you walk in their shoes. Why are we are so absorbed by materialism that we forget our moral values? Why are we becoming so selfish? Why do we think we can do anything because we are rich?
I was passing by a stunning building and saw a ‘wrinkled-face’ woman sitting on a bench with a shopping bag beside her. I don’t know why she was weeping, but no one was willing to help her. Everyone was busy in shopping and no one was interested in the reason behind her weeping. Every single person there was too busy to spare a moment to help her out.
When I asked her, she said, “I just want to buy soap, my daughters want to wash their face with soap.” What I felt in that moment, I can’t express, it was just soap, but that woman didn’t have the amount to get it. We are so caged in materialism that we forget how blessed we are. Even if we spend the rest of our lives thanking God, it would still not be enough. These days, the worries of people are if the maid arrived to press their clothes or if they visited a fancy restaurant. None of us think about those poor people who do not have a roof over their heads, who don’t have food to eat, who don’t have sufficient amount of money for treatment if they got sick.
Even the smallest issue in our lives is considered as a life-threatening problem, but we don’t think about those who are encountering hurdles in each and every step they take. They don’t about the people who are not even sure if they would be made to get food on the table for their family. Our standard of living has become so ‘money-oriented’. We just want lunch and/or dinner at a majestic place and showing it off on social media to just get compliments for other materialistic people. We’d walk right past people in our luxury cars without realizing that they don’t even have shoes to wear. We buy dresses from expensive brands without considering those who sleep without any cover over themselves.
Child labor should strictly be banned. Every child should be given free education, at least till school level. These days, it is extremely difficult for the poor to attain education because of the expense. If we go back to two decades, we could say that if that child would get proper education he would be at an honorable position and would be able to lead his family. But now, because of inflation, that no longer remains to be true. If we only give skill training to the people, our shortage of skill workforce can be compensated.
When we’re able to provide education to each and every child, our country would prosper. We would be able to increase our exports, and the rising exports would increase economic growth. We have a lot of talent, but we do not properly utilize it. There should be some provision for destitute in different areas, where they can get free meal and can fulfill their basic necessity to live. All the food leftover in the restaurants should be utilized.
Now a day’s we have a trend of hiring maids to do our chores. Why can’t we do our chores ourselves? God has blessed us with a complete and healthy body, so why are we dependent on others? Why do we feel so proud of having a follower, just to provide us with everything? Does a person not feel shame? None of us think about educating them so they can earn and live an honorable life. Even if their age has passed, they can attain vocational training. The wage that they are given can be spent on their school expense.
If something happens, we raise our voice and take action, but the underprivileged can’t do that for themselves as they are helpless. I would like to advise people to never make fun of anyone’s hopelessness, time changes very quickly and it may turn against you. Be kind, be generous and always try to help others. This world is just a temporary and we don’t know what would happen in the next second.
