LAHORE - At least 101 terror suspects were rounded up in City on Sunday in an ongoing joint operation launched by intelligence agencies and Lahore Police against the perpetrators allegedly involved in the three deadliest attacks at the most sensitive buildings in the City. After 23 arrests on Friday and 12 arrests on Saturday, the number of terror suspects netted during the search operation has reached 144. Arrest toll is reported to increase further as ongoing operation against terrorists is going to be intensified in coming days. Sources privy to the development told The Nation that investigation teams received valuable information from the suspects, which is going to help police reach at the terrorists hideouts and networks. The security agencies and police arrested these suspects on the information provided by their accomplices, who were already in police custody. According to the details, the police arrested 86 suspects from various parts of Model Town on special directives of Senior Superintendent (Operation) Police (SSP) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmad Gujjar. However, the police released 21 people out of 86 suspects by issuing them strict warnings that they should carry their identity cards while travelling. The police were interrogating the other suspects. The agencies arrested three more suspects, including an Afghani and recovered sophisticated weapons and various maps of different areas of Lahore. The high-ranking official said that the terrorists were held from Azadi Chowk near juice corner on a tip off. I cannot establish any kind of development as they are under investigation but it is quite clear that every terror suspect will be dealt with iron hand, he further added. The police sources informed that the alleged terrorists had fake identity cards, maps of different city buildings and government installations, walkie-talkies and illegal weapons. The police said these terrorists were arrested on the information extorted from Riaz, whom agencies arrested from Multan a few days back. The police sources further said the accused were associated with Amjad Farooqi Group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban. The securities agencies shifted the alleged terrorists to unidentified place for investigation. The intelligence agencies also captured 12 more terrorists from different parts of the Cantonment area. It was reported that these 12 perpetrators were involved in heinous crimes of terrorism and other such incidents. The police source also confirmed the development that it was a great success in connection with the ongoing operation against such non-state actors and terrorists. A senior official seeking anonymity revealed that the law enforcement agencies were keeping a watchful eye on various activities in the City. He said the police have been directed to remain alert for any untoward incidents. In the wake of the reports from intelligence agencies indicating high risk, the security arrangements are being intensified to avert any untoward incident in the City, the source further added. Another official said that suspected vehicles and individuals are being searched and the police have also been ordered to ensure foolproof security measures in congested areas including bus stands, markets, parking places, hospitals, schools, mosques, shrines, Madrassas, Chung Police Training Centre, Abbas Lines, Qurban Lines, Police Lines, Punjab Assembly, Traffic Police Lines at Thokar Niaz Baig, Secretariat, CCPO office, SSP office, Investigation Headquarter and all other sensitive points and government installations.
