LAHORE - More than 26 district nazims of Punjab have demanded immediate local bodies elections seeking intervention of Chief Justice of Pakistan and Lahore High Court to get their due rights conferred by the constitution. This demand was made during a meeting attended by a large number of district nazims chiefly District Nazim (Attock) Major (r) Tahir Saddiq, District Nazim (Chakwal) Sardar Ghulam Abbas, District Nazim (Bahawalpur) Tariq Bashir Cheema, District Nazim (Lodharan), Ahdul Rehman Kanju and District Nazim (Khanewal) Ahmed Yar Hiraj. However District Nazim Lahore Mian Amer Mehmood did not attend the meeting. The district nazims jointly condemned the attitude of Punjab government, saying district government system had been made hostage of bureaucracy over the last two years. They also denounced Punjab government for freezing the development funds. During the meeting, they advised tehsil and town nazims to keep on their official obligations to ensure the provision of facilities to the masses. 'Arrest of pos vital to eradicate crimes' Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Pervez Rathore has said the arrest of proclaimed offenders is vital to eradicate heinous crimes from society. He said that protection of life and property and elimination of crime was the foremost responsibility of police, for which all officers and officials should work together as a team. CCPO said that, along with arresting the proclaimed offenders, effective action should also be taken against such influential people who provide them sanctuary and protection. He said those, who provide criminals such safe hideouts are equally guilty of promotion of crimes in the society, therefore they deserve no leniency. CCPO also submitted a comprehensive list of 194 proclaimed offenders (POs) to the Home Department, upon which suitable head money has been suggested to be made. 17 arrested from brothel house Johar Town police arrested 17 people including five women from a brothel house in compromising position here on Sunday. The police investigators said that in search of some criminals they raided the guesthouse in Johar Town area and found in its different rooms 12 drunken men with five women in compromising condition. The police told that in 21 GI, Johar Town, under the garb of a guesthouse some persons were providing illegal facilities. It said that as they reached the main gate of the guesthouse, its gatekeeper loudly announced about the presence of the police to alert the accused however they succeeded in arresting the accused. Later, the accused were identified as Robina, Zeba, Razia, Fozia, Shabana, Abbas, Ijaz, Ismaeel, Shakeel, Sajid, Akram and others. The police said it also recovered liquor bottles and objectionable drugs from their possession. The police registered an FIR against the accused under committing adultery and shifted the women to Women Race Course Police Station.
