PR LAHORE - The employees of Lahore Electric Supply Company should provide better services to the consumers. Lesco, which serves more than 3.5 million consumers of different categories, has more than twenty-five thousand employees. It is the responsibility of the employees to spare no efforts to prevent the pilferage of electricity and ensure recovery of dues.
These views were expressed by Wajid All Kazmi, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lahore Electric Supply Company, in a largely attended conference of power workers, which was held at Bukhtiar Labour Hall. Held under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union, the conference was presided over by veteran trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of the Union.
Earlier, Khurshid Ahmed appealed the workers to raise productivity of the national public utility and make it self-reliant in order to avert its privatization. He urged them to forge unity among their ranks and appealed them to refuse to work in case these are not provided safety equipment. He asked the government of Punjab to protect the field staff, which detects the power theft.
The house, by a resolution, urged the government to allocate more resources to develop hydel power stations and appealed the provincial government to close markets at 7pm in order to save power for productive purposes.
