8 die in factory dryer blast

GUJRANWALA - Eight labourers lost their lives and 30 others sustained injuries when the roof of a paper mill caved in after one of its giant dryers exploded late Wednesday night at Mari Thakran Road near Kamoke. Labourers were busy making paperboard when suddenly a dryer in the factory exploded with a bang. Resultantly, the roof of the mill collapsed, killing eight workers and injuring 30 others. Those who killed are: Mohsin Shah s/o Yasin (Kamoke), Manzoor Ahmad s/o Muhammad Hanif (Okara), Muhammad Shoaib s/o Asghar Ali (Morr Khunda), Muhammad Abbas s/o Haq Nawaz (Khanewal), Mahmood Akhter s/o Hadayat Masih (Faizabad) and Aziz Rehman s/o Shakoor Ahmad (Faizabad) while Ali Abbas later died in Mayo Hospital Lahore. Sadr Kamoke police arrested mill owner Muhammad Tariq soon after the incident and started investigations.
