RAWALPINDI - Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will address the lawyers' convention at Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Rawalpindi Bench on September 24. President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Rawalpindi Sardar Asmatullah told this in a press conference here on Thursday. He was flanked by General Secretary Malik Siddique Awan, President District Bar Association Sardar Tariq Masood, former president LHCBA Chaudhry Ikram and local PPP leader and lawyer Chaudhry Masood Akhtar. He remarked that the legal fraternity would observe September 23 as Iftikhar Day before the deposed CJ's address to lawyers' convention on September. Sardar Asmatullah while blaming President Asif Ali Zardari and the government for not fulfilling their promises to restore all the sacked judges, said that their struggle for the independence of judiciary would be accelerated after the Eid-ul-Fitar. He said that the delaying tactics used by the government in a bid to keep Iftikhar Chaudhry out of Supreme Court have been causing restlessness among the common man as there were expectations that the new elected government would restore the judges as it had pledged to do so. LHCBA president further remarked that the fresh oath by the deposed judges according to a formula put forth by Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek was unconstitutional and it was aimed at keeping deposed CJ out of court. He vowed that the lawyers' movement would continue till the reinstatement of deposed CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Reprimanding the heavy deployment of law enforcing agencies outside SC building, the lawyers' leader termed it the weakness of the present government, as they were afraid of handful protestors. Dispelling the impression that their was any rift among the members of the bar associations, Sardar Asmatullah said the government had been trying to create rift among lawyers fraternity by offering different jobs to them but only few lawyers affiliated with the ruling Pakistan People Party (PPP) had change sides while rest of the judges have already rejected such offers. "All lawyers are agreed on one point that is unconditional restoration of all deposed judge including the CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry," he added. The bar representatives in their respective speeches informed that  they would invite Punjab Chief Minister to address the LHCBA after Eid to boost their ongoing struggle for the restoration of deposed judges. After the press conference, the lawyer held general body meeting at DBA office demanding immediate and unconditional restoration of all sacked judges. Though the meeting was convened to condemn American attacks on the Pakistani territories and making future plans about the protests for the return of the judges, most of the time was consumed by infightings as both pro-CJ lawyers and members of Peoples Lawyers Forum criticized each other for going against the cause of their movement. The lawyers also offered fateh for a lawyer who died of cardiac arrest and blamed a judge of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench for his death. They alleged that the judge while hearing a case humiliated the late lawyer Arshad Gondal which led to cardiac arrest. The lawyers said that their colleague told his wife if he died judge of LHC would be responsible for. The bar maintained that they would  register a criminal case against the judge after the wife of the deceased submitted an affidavit. Meanwhile the lawyers observed a complete boycott at both high and district courts and brought out a protest rally against the delay in the restoration of deposed judges.
