KARACHI - The passengers for upcountry would suffer as Pakistan Railways (PR) has failed to fulfill their needs to allocate the accurate numbers of special trains on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. Despite passing of several months, the railway high-ups yet not maintain the damaged trains. According to details, the railway department has failed to maintain the routine special trains service during Eid while previously 17 special trains had been allocated but this year only five special trains for across the country have been allocated. The railway department official said that due to the damages of the trains, the department facing shortage of locomotives and coaches that's why it hardly managed only five trains for Eid. "But a possibility remained there that more trains might be managed for Karachi for Eid." He said that booking for special trains would be started from today (September 19). The special trains will leave Karachi to upcountry on September 28 and 29. "Within a couple of days, the Karachi division will send a proposal to Lahore Railway Headquarters that if further special trains would not be arranged then extra boogies should be managed to compensate most of the passengers," he added. It is pertinent to mention here that the railway high-ups allocated five Eid special trains, instead of 17, in which two were allocated for Karachi, while one each for Quetta, Lahore and Peshawar. Meanwhile, PR suffered with the huge financial loss when the riots occurred following the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007. Later the government provided huge funds to the railway department to maintain the service, but so far few trains are left to be resumed.      It must be recalled here that the highest number of passengers used to leave from Karachi to upcountry for Eid.
