PESHAWAR - As many as 11 persons were killed and six others sustained injures in exchange of fire between two groups over a land dispute in Bari Kot district Upper Dir on Sunday. Locals said that two rival groups in the remote Jonekas Barikot area of Upper Dir led by Akbar Zaman and Muhammad Nageen had a dispute over a piece of land that triggered the bloodshed on Sunday, when reportedly Zaman's men opened fire on the tenant of Nageen and killed two persons who were identified as Hafeezur Rahmand and his mother. To retaliate the attack, Nageen group and his relatives exchanged fire. As result, nine more people, five from Nageen's side and four from Zaman's group, were killed. Those killed were identified as Muhammad Nabi, Fateh Rahman, nephew of Nageen, Faqir Zada, Sher Zada, Amir Islam, Gul Zarif and Nek Muhammad. Barikot is located in the remote Kohistan tehsil of Upper Dir district, which falls in the jurisdiction of Kalkot Police Station. Soon after the incident, the local police rushed to the area and controlled the volatile situation.
