OKARA - Police seized 320-kg of chars and 50-kg of opium recovered from the hidden compartments of a vehicle and also arrested a suspected drug peddler during search on Faisalabad Road here on Sunday. The huge quantity of narcotics was brought from Peshawar and was to be sold in interior Punjab. On a tip-off, the police set up a picket at Katchery Chawk. As soon as the vehicle (4782/LZQ) reached Okara the police got hold of the car with the rider Yaseen, the resident of 11/9.L Saiwal and recovered the prohibited drugs. In preliminary interrogation, the accused said the drugs were brought from Shah Roum Khan in Peshawar and was to be handed over to Shahid Khokhar in Mauza Akbar Okara for its distribution in other parts of Punjab. SHO Inspector Malik Abdul Ghafoor told the media that inquiry from the accused had been started and sensational disclosures were expected. However, DPO Raja Abid Ali while appreciating the efficiency of A Division police station has shown hopes that police would continue struggles for the elimination of crime. Separately in two successful raids, the Gogera police having arrested two suspects, recovered 2 kg chars from their possession. Reports told the police, on a tip-off that two persons will be selling drugs in Mehmood Kot Okara, raided and arrested Zaheer Abbas and Umer Hayat. ROAD MISHAPS: as a result of collision between a car and a motorcycle at Satgrah Road, a person was killed and is grand son was injured.
