LAHORE (APP) As many as 7,500,000 acres feet water was wasted owing to lack of water storage facility from June last to uptill now in the country Talking to APP here Sunday, Pakistan Agri Forum Chairman Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal said, Had the water reservoirs been established in the country, the rain water could have been stored in for multiple purpose and to avert flood like situation. He said that 4,000MW electricity could have been generated from the rain water if it was stored which help overcome power shortage in the country. The new reservoirs would also help watering fields two or three time for Rabi crops, he added. He was of the view that the recent rains which played havoc with houses, infrastructure, crops etc, in various areas of Sindh province could be avoided if water storage facility was existed. He said that it was high time the government should realize the gravity of the situation and step up its effort to construct dams to store rain water for power.
