LAHORE (APP)Chairman Department of Poultry Production of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Prof Dr Muhammad Akram has said that production of various quail breeds and their eggs can be very profitable in the country. He was addressing a one-day awareness seminar on Quail farming a profitable enterprise. Assistant Manager Dairy and Livestock Development SEMEDA Dr Noureen Anjum said that quail breeding was a highly profitable business, adding that it had huge income potential for new farmers, entrepreneurs, quail product merchandisers and farm equipment suppliers. Earlier, Prof Dr Muhammad Akram said that quail meat was an ideal food and it was not forbidden in Islam. Japanese quails are very delicious. Quails are quickly replacing the chicken broiler due to their high nutritive value. Quail meat has less fat and fewer calories, forming an ideal food for health conscious consumers, he added. He said that quail eggs and meat were rich in vitamins essential aminoacids, unsaturated fatty acids and phospholipids, which are vital for human physical and mental development. Quail meat and eggs could be included in diets of children and pregnant mothers, he added.
