KARACHI - At least 100 suspects were picked up by the law enforcement agencies in targeted operation continued in the city here on Wednesday.

Two suspected terrorists were apprehended from Gulshan-e-Bunair area of Quaidabad. The suspects were identified as Amjad and Mir Jan. Two hand grenades and two pistols were also recovered from their possession.

In another raid, Orangi Town police claimed to have arrested three suspects from Orangi Town. Police said the suspects were involved in attacking the house of a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami with the cracker bomb few hours before their arrest. They were identified as Farooq, Ayaz and Tahir.

Meanwhile, at least 20 suspects were also taken into custody during targeted operation in Pakistan Bazaar area of Orangi Town. Police said the targeted operation was conducted following the killings of four MQM men. Weapons were also recovered from the possession of few suspects. In another raid, some 15 suspects were also taken into custody during overnight targeted operation by the police in parts of BaldiaTown. According to SP Shahjahan Khan, six pistols and 2.5 kilogramme hashish were also recovered. Further investigation was underway.

On the other side, Karachi police conducted 72 raids in parts of metropolis and claimed to have apprehended 128 criminals, including 21 absconders, 26 under arms ordinance, 19 under narcotics act, eight robbers, seven murderers and one under Terrorism Act.

It also claimed to have recovered three bombs, 34 weapons and narcotics.

However, as many as 14 suspects allegedly involved in target killing incidents in Karachi were reportedly taken into custody from different guest houses and hotels in Murree. The suspects were staying there in order to avoid arrests during the ongoing targeted raids and operation in Karachi. They were taken into custody by the local police.
