MANCHESTER: Drivers are being offered an unusual way to pay at a car parks in Leeds and Manchester - with conkers.

They can hand over one conker for every 20p owed at sites run by Town Centre Car Parks in thre cities.

The promotion will raise money to sponsor a forest in Britain to offset the emissions from cars, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response to the bonkers for conkers campaign so far and we’re really excited about it,” said Ben Ziff, managing director at TCCP.

Following the campaign, the firm has promised to donate funds to the Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve, near Bardsey, which is managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Jonathan Leadley, director of development at the trust, said: “This fantastic, but slightly bonkers idea will raise the profile of Yorkshire’s wonderful woodlands and hopefully raise a bit of cash to help us look after them.”–WO
