ISLAMABAD - Ambassador of China to Pakistan Sun Weidong called on Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Wednesday and discussed the bilateral relations between two countries with particular reference to the close and proactive economic bilateral cooperation.

In the meeting the minister said that both the countries enjoy decades old bilateral relations that are time tested and people of Pakistan are proud of Chinese friendship because China has always been there whenever Pakistan needed it.

The Chinese Ambassador apprised Nisar of the efforts that are being carried out to give a concrete shape to the mega projects that have been approved recently during the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to China.

Weidong said that the success of these projects will give a new dimension to already strong relationship which exists between China and Pakistan and will serve as a milestone to further cooperation in future.  He said that both countries share same kind of challenges arising out of terrorism and extremism.

He appreciated the efforts of the government in apprehending the culprits involved in attack on tourists at Nanga Parbat Base Camp and said that no effort will succeed to sabotage the relations between two countries.

The ambassador also expressed desire to open new areas of cooperation between the two countries and said that China is ready to provide all kind of institutional support that Pakistan requires.

The minister said that his ministry is taking serious steps and strictly following the SOPs for the safety and security of Chinese working in Pakistan. A committee is already working in the Ministry whose task is to constantly look after the security of our Chinese friends.

He assured the people and the government of China that Pakistan would leave no stone upturned to look after the security and wellbeing of our Chinese friends working in Pakistan. Both countries will have to remain vigilant of the elements that don’t appreciate this surge in relations between China and Pakistan, the minister added.

The minister also welcomed the efforts that are being made to start major development projects in Pakistan like Economic Corridor from Gwadar to Southern China saying these projects would become the symbol of friendship between China and Pakistan and would bring a new era of prosperity and development in the region.
