ISLAMABAD - The hectic diplomatic efforts would likely result in the meeting of Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif with his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh at the margins of 68th session of United Nations General Assembly.

Sources in the government informed The Nation that they are getting positive signals from India and hopefully the meeting between the two leaders would take place after the UN GA session most probably on 29th of this month a day before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would return back.

Sources further said that Prime Minister Sharif would be returning back from his three days Turkey visit today (Thursday) and would chair a special cabinet meeting on Friday before his departure for United States to attend the 68th session of UN GA.

Sources in the government further said that Prime Minister before leaving for his maiden visit to United States after assuming power would take the cabinet colleagues into confidence on host of issues, including his expected meeting with Indian Premier Dr Manmohan Singh.

Sources further informed that as the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah would be returning back from his private visit to United Kingdom today (Thursday) he could also have a meeting with prime minister on Friday regarding the finalisation of the name for Chairman National Accountability Bureau.

But sources in the Pakistan People’s Party said that Leader of Opposition would give the fresh names after consultation with the party leadership and it would not possible to furnish the names on Friday just a day after his arrival from UK.

However, the sources in ruling PML-N insisted that as there was tremendous pressure from Supreme Court of Pakistan for early appointment of Chairman NAB and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar was in constant touch with Leader of Opposition on the matter, so both the Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition would finalise the name on Friday.

These sources said that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry while giving direction for early appointment of Chairman NAB had cautioned that in case of further delay on part of Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition in this matter the court would step in the consultation process in the light of the five-member bench verdict, the proposition not acceptable to both of them.

Sources further said that after his return back most likely on Oct. 1 Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif would likely make some formal announcement regarding the top-level appointments in the Armed Froces as both Chief of Army Staff and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee are due to retire in next couple of months.
