KHYBER AGENCY - Local administration of Landi Kotal on Sunday arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in aerial firing along with three shopkeepers for selling fireworks.

The political Tehsildar Landi Kotal, Irshad Mohmand said that on the direction of Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landi Kotal, Rahim Mehsud, a massive crackdown was launched against people of the area who were said to be involved in aerial firing.  As a result of operation, five tribesmen were apprehended in violation of law while three local traders were also sent to lock up for selling of banned items.

In this connection, the administration has convened a grand jirga of Afridi, Shinwari and Shelmani tribes to discuss the matter in order to take unanimous steps for stopping aerial firing in the area, sources informed. It is to be mentioned here that the administration has prohibited firing in the area and asked the tribesmen not to carry out aerial firing during ceremonies and marriages; however, for the last few months the tribal have been violating the law and the shopkeepers have been selling fireworks goods in Landi Kotal.
