LAHORE - Imran Khan is desirous of launching solo flight on September 30 to pursue an accountability campaign following Panama leaks disclosures, say opposition parties leaders while discussing PTI’s call for Raiwind March.

PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain commenting on Imran’s call for Raiwind March on September 30 said, “PTI should take other opposition and likeminded parties onboard for a forceful anti-government drive.”

“Unity among the ranks of the opposition is a must to take government to the task,” he added.

Party’s another senior leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi said, “Opposition parties and the entire nation should get united and take to streets to send the government home.”

Dr Tahirul Qadri party leaders, endorsing the PML-Q’s top leaders, said, “It seems Imran Khan has plans of launching solo flight. He should have taken into confidence opposition parties for Raiwind March prior to the announcement if he is interested in joint opposition move.”

PML-Q central spokesman Kamil Ali Agha told the paper his party would take a decision to join Imran’s march when they would formally be invited.

PPP senior leader Qamaruz Zaman Kaira said his party would decide when they receive an invitation from Imran Khan.

PAT spokesman Noor Ullah Siddiqui expressed the same views when asked to inform about his party position regarding PTI September 30 Raiwind March participation.

Terming it democratic right of Imran’s party, Jammat-e-Islami, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen and Sunni Ittehad Council have backed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Raiwind March.

Jamiat Ulam-e-Islam-Fazl and Jamiat Ulma-e-Pakistan are not in favour of the protests with leaders of the religious parties say the political parties should avoid confrontation at a time when the country is facing internal and external security threats.

“We feel nothing wrong if PTI holds a protest demonstration in Raiwind. JI also did it in the past,” Ameerul Azeem, spokesperson for the Jamaat told The Nation yesterday.

“Raiwind is not a place but it turned into a symbol of elite ruling class residence. Sharifs spent billions of rupees in the area for their luxury and on the other side the people of the 80 per cent rural areas are without basic living facilities. People have the right to protest in front of rulers’ residences,” he said. Ameer said the JI delegation will attend the PTI march if it was invited by the Khan’s party. However, he added the JI workers and supporters would not attend the PTI rally.

Azeem said the participation of workers could be possible if the programme was designed jointly by both parties.

A day earlier in a statement, JI chief Sirajul Haq linked the government’s resistance to form a commission on Panama leaks as the reason behind the Raiwind March.

“Government failure to stop corruption and form an independent commission on Panama leaks forcing people to march on Raiwind,” he said.
