KARACHI - A man and his son gunned down in target killing in the outskirt of the metropolis on Sunday.

The victims identified as Mastan Khan and his young son as Omar Khan were shot dead at Sector 17-C within the limits of Shah Latif police station.

Their bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later their bodies were handed over to their family for burial process. Shah Latif SHO Raja Abbas said that the incident occurred apparently over personal enmity.

“In 2012, deceased Mastan’s younger brother got freewill marriage with a daughter of Haji Uzair,” explained the SHO Abbas. “That freewill marriage caused of enmity between both the families.” The officer further said that following the freewill marriage, Haji Uzair with the help of his sons and others killed Mastan’s younger brother Faisal in 2012 while Mastan was the complainant in the murder case of his brother Faisal and he nominated Haji Uzair and others in the FIR.

The officer further said that Uzair and others now traced the victims while they came to Shah Latif area to visit someone from their residence in Korangi neighbourhood, adding that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted and killed them.

The police also recovered five empty shells of the 30bore pistol from the crime scene. SHO Abbas said that the police have started a search for the culprits but so far no one was arrested. A case has been registered while further investigation was underway.

40 suspects held

As many as 40 suspects were arrested in various targeted raids and operations by law enforcement agencies in parts of city on Sunday.

Heavy contingents of police conducted an overnight targeted operation in Old Sabzi Mandi area in PIB Colony. The entire locality was cordoned off during the operation hours that lasted in at least two hours. During the operation, the police conducted door to door search operation.

PIB DSP Nasir Lodhi said that the operation was conducted against the criminals, particularly those involved in drugs business in the area. The officer said that during the operation, the police apprehended nearly 30 suspects and shifted them into different police stations.

The police also claimed to have recovered weapons and huge quantity of narcotics from the possession of the arrested suspects. The police also recovered at least 14 snatched motorcycles from their possession. The cases against them were registered while further investigation was underway.

Separately, the police conducted a raid at Khat Basti area in Upper Gizri, Clifton and detained at least six suspects during a raid. The police said that the raid was conducted on a tip-off, adding that during a raid, the police recovered a bag containing arms and ammunitions from an vacant plot.

Police officials said that the weapons recovered from a bag included a Kalashnikov, repeater and ammunitions. The suspects were later shifted to Clifton police station for further investigations.

Similarly, Mehmoodabad police claim to have apprehended two suspects during a search operation in Chenasor Goth and Kashmir Colony areas.

The suspects arrested were identified as Noman alias Shooter and Usman alias Asshu. Mehmoodabad SHO Sarwar Commando said that the suspects were involved in more than 50 cases of street crimes while weapons and looted cell-phones were also recovered from their possession, adding that one of them Noman was also declared absconder by anti-terrorism court.

In another raid, two more suspects were apprehended by Taimuria police. The police also claim to have recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession. Separately, the law enforcers arrested an alleged criminal from Gulbahar and recovered two snatched motorcycles. The cases against them were registered while further investigation was underway.
