PESHAWAR - Transgenders were allegedly attacked and intimidated by armed persons in three separate incidents in Peshawar on Sunday.

Chairperson of the transgender Association Farzana told The Nation that first incident occurred in Chamkani area when the transgenders were intimidated by armed persons for not paying extortion. However, no FIR was registered.

The second incident occurred in Pahari Pora area when armed persons opened firing at them when they were coming to Bara Gat to attend a marriage ceremony.

Local police station after a complaint registered FIR and one of the attackers was arrested by Pahari Pora police while another escaped from the scene.

Similar incident allegedly reported in Matthra area when transgender was allegedly assaulted and forced to dance in a marriage ceremony.

She said police are under pressure from the local community to register FIR as the local are against the transgender and they are openly teasing them during marriage ceremonies.
