Spanish golfer found dead at US course
CHICAGO - Police have charged a man with the premeditated murder of a Spanish golfer, Celia Barquin Arozamena, who investigators say was assaulted and killed on a golf course in the US state of Iowa. The 22-year-old's body was discovered Monday by police officers who responded to a report of a "suspicious" unattended golf bag at the Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, Iowa. They found her body nearby and determined she "had been assaulted and died as a result," according to a police statement. Colin Daniel Richards, 22, was identified as a suspect and charged with first-degree murder. Barquin Arozamena hailed from Puente San Miguel in Spain, and this year was named Iowa State University's female athlete of the year, having claimed a major conference championship victory.–AFP
SNGPL hammer Islamabad in QAT match
ISLAMABAD – SNGPL hammered Islamabad Region by an innings and 307 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Four-Day 2018-19 round three Pool-A match at Diamond Ground on Tuesday. Islamabad were bundled out for 176 in their second innings, as Sarmad Bhatti made unbeaten 67. Aziz Ullah took 2-23, M Hafeez 2-26 and Asad Ali 2-33. At Abbottabad Ground, KRL outclassed Fata by 7 wickets. KRL achieved the target losing 3 wickets with Jaahid Ali hitting 65. Hafid Ullah took 2-46. Earlier, Fata were all out for 172 in their second innings. In pool B match at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi were close to victory against PTV. After follow-on, PTV were struggling at 215-6, still required another 61 runs to force Rawalpindi bat again. M Waqas slammed 81 and Saud Shakeel 42. Bahawalpur rout Hyderabad in U-19 Cricket
ISLAMABAD - Bahawalpur hammered Hyderabad by an innings and 39 runs in the Inter Region U-19 Three-Day Tournament 2018-19 round five match here at National Ground on Tuesday. Hyderabad resumed their first innings at overnight score of 16-1 and were bundled out for 80 with Khayam Hasan scoring 24. M Junaid grabbed 5-19 and Muzamil Khan 3-28. After follow-on, Hyderabad were bowled out for 121 in their second innings. Mujahid Ali made 45 and Hurera Bin Ijaz 39. M Junaid clinched 6-41 and Muzamil Khan 4-41. At Mirpur Stadium, AJK lost 5 second innings wickets with 147 runs on the board against Faisalabad, thus had 10 runs lead with 5 wickets still in their hands. SNGPL rout Karachi Utd to qualify for PPFL
LAHORE - SNGPL football team outclassed Karachi United by 7-0 in the PFF promotion playoff match to qualify for the Pakistan Premiere Football League (PPFL) 2018/19. M Sohaib was top scorer of the match as he hammered a hat-trick for the winning side while Imran banged in a brace and Shahzaib, Aleem and Abdullah scored one goal apiece. Sohaib slammed the opening goal in the 3rd minute and then doubled his team’s lead in the 16th minute. Shahzaib then struck in 26th minute and in the dying moments of first half, Sohaib converted another to make it 4-1. In the second half, Imran slammed the fifth goal in the 57th minute while soon after 5 minutes, he thwarted another to make it 6-0. Lahore football league next month
LAHORE – The leading clubs of the city will feature in the Lahore Football League being played from October 21 here. "The main objective of this event is to promote football at club level and to create opportunity for young players to exhibit their football prowess," said District Football Association (DFA) spokesman here on Tuesday. He said nearly 50 clubs recently attended a meeting in which holding of the league was discussed and the idea was highly appreciated. "Efforts are being made to revive football activities at early level and this league is a step forward to engage active football clubs in a competitive football activity," he said. “The outstanding players of the league will be shortlisted and they will be considered for selection in Punjab team for future events.”–Staff Reporter
