ICT launches drive against profiteers

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory Administration have launched a vigorous anti-profiteering drive in the federal capital following complaints from the consumers and to ensure the availability of food items at the control rate. District Food Controller ICT Muhammad Afzal conducted price checking in the rural area of Sohan and imposed fine amounting Rs8000 on 3 profiteers for selling 20 kg flour bags at the higher rate. He warned that profiteers to ensure the sale of 20kg flour bag at the fixed control rate of Rs510 failing which strict action will be taken against the profiteers. He also took samples of flour from the markets and sent them for quality check in the laboratory. The ICT Administration has asked the shopkeepers to ensure the display of rate list of food items prominently at their shops failing which heavy fines will be imposed on the profiteers. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner ICT Asadullah Faiz informed that ICT Administration is quite vigilant and keeping a strict watch on the prices of food items and no one will be allowed profiteering in the city. He said that complaints regarding over charging of food items are attended on the urgent basis and a control room with telephone no 9261504 is also working in the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) ICT for taking prompt action against the profiteers. He also informed that he had called a meeting of price control on Monday and a vigorous price checking drive will be launched in the city in order to ensure the availability of food items at the fixed rates. Asadullah Faiz said that the interest of the consumers will be protected and they will be provided maximum relief at the weekly bazaars, which are a great source of providing food items at the cheaper rates. Deputy Commissioner informed that quality of food items was also being ensured and regular sampling of food items was being carried out in the markets.
