LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee to be headed by Senior Advisor to CM Punjab Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa to formulate a comprehensive plan for energy conservation in government offices. The committee will soon present a report in this regard. Presiding over the meeting, the chief minister said the people were facing serious problems due to loadshedding which was also adversely affecting agriculture, industry and other sectors. He said government officers and departments should not consider themselves above electricity crisis and, for this purpose, a strategy was being evolved to save electricity in government offices. He said the campaign for energy conservation will begin from the Chief Ministers House and the proposals of the committee will also be implemented in the offices of all high-rank officers including the chief secretary and the inspector general of police. Senior Adviser to CM Punjab Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, the chief secretary and the home secretary also attended the meeting. Unity urged to counter terror Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the whole nation need to forge unity to fight the nefarious designs of anti-state elements. He said the country was passing through a critical phase and unity of all was needed to counter the situation. The chief minister said this while presiding over a high-level meeting to review law and order situation in the province. The meeting was attended by Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Advisor Jehanzeb Burki, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police, the home secretary and other senior officers concerned. The CM said Pakistan is facing serious security challenges, adding nothing could be more important than maintenance of law and order in the present circumstances for which all out resources were being utilized. He said promotion of religious harmony and brotherhood is need of the hour and the whole nation will have to unite on a single platform to foil the nefarious designs of anti-state elements. He said police department had not only been equipped with the latest weapons but special attention was also being paid to training of police force on modern lines. He said intelligence agencies should ensure close coordination towards any unpleasant incident and should exchange information on regular basis. He said law enforcement agencies should also keep a watchful eye on the activities of anti-social elements and an effective system should be evolved at police station level in this regard. The chief minister said cooperation of people is of vital importance for eradication of terrorism and they should keep an eye on their surroundings and immediately inform the police about suspicious elements. He said police should spare no effort for protecting life and property of the citizens besides maintaining law and order. He said the campaign for nabbing proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes should be further intensified and their hideouts should be traced. He said senior police officers should ensure provision of justice to the common man, change in Thana culture and curbing the crimes in their respective areas. He said senior police officers should also hold open courts on regular basis for providing an opportunity to the people to apprise them of their problems without any fear. Earlier, the inspector general of police and other concerned senior officers gave a detailed briefing about the law and order situation in the province.
