LAHORE National Bank of Pakistan cruised into the quarter-finals of the 20th NBP National Football Challenge Cup (NFCC) when they earned solitary 1-0 win over Navy in Group-D at Multans Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh under flood-lit system. In another match of the same group, PEL outclassed DFA Multan 3-0 after 1-0 up at interval. NBP entered last eight with two successive wins, both by single-goal margin. PEL is well poised to join them as they require only a draw against Navy on April 20. The bankers were the first to settle down and they forced several chances throughout the match while seamen also showed their attacking mood at regular interval. It was 0-0 at half time as both the keepers - Ishaq Ahmed (Navy) and Amir Gul (NBP) - were alert under the bar. The second session confined to midfield and moves were far and few but two minutes from time striker Junaid Hamza cut in from left to steer the ball in. Asghar Khan Anjum-coached PEL dominated the proceeding again Multan with grand display and recorded 3-0 win. PEL missed two real chances in the first 10 minutes and they maintained their onslaught and scored the opener through midfielder Saad Ullah in the 37th minute. PEL led 1-0 at interval. DFA Multan, under training of former skipper of Pakistan Sharafat Ali, went all out for equaliser but their strikers failed to beat Saqib Hanif. PEL enhanced the lead to 2-0 in the 73rd minute when their striker Asmat Ullah dashed through the middle, side stepping three markers and rolled the ball into right corner. Midfielder Muhammad Riaz rounded off the tally in the final minute when set piece by Muhammad Rashid saw Riaz heading the ball past keeper with glancing header.
