LAHORE The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PU ASA) in its General Body meeting has unanimously decided to end the academic boycott with immediate effect in addition to continuing the protest movement. The meeting was held here at the New Campus on Monday that continued for 3-hour, under the chairmanship of Prof Dr Mehr Muhmmad Saeed Akhtar and General Secretary Prof Javed Sami. The meeting also decided that in order to make up the loss in the academic work of the student community, classes would also be henceforth taken on Saturday, which is presently observed as a holiday in the Punjab University, till the completion of the on-going semester. The President of the Association also appealed that the teachers should regularly take make-up classes, which was willingly accepted by the faculty members. In the next phase of the protest movement, token strike would be observed once in a week and the teachers would wear black bands with regard to the other relevant matters, befitting decisions would be taken and conveyed to the member teachers. The PU ASA also demanded of the Punjab Govt to immediately arrest the remaining culprits nominated in the FIR registered on the report of Prof Iftikhar Hussain Baloch. The participants also expressed their sorrow and grief on the sad demise of renowned scholar (late) Dr Israr Ahmad. They prayed that the may Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace in heaven and grant courage to the members of the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
