LAHORE - Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that Saturday has been declared as a full working day for holding special classes upto June 30, 2010 in order to cover the loss of studies caused due to the 15-day academic boycott of the PU teachers. He was presiding over a special meeting of deans and principals of the constituent colleges in his office on Monday. The Vice-Chancellor said that with a view to facilitate the students, the PU transport fleet would ply on all routes on Saturday also till June 30. The Resident Officer-I was directed to make arrangements for extra university buses on Friday evening also to facilitate the students who might take their classes after Friday prayers. All the heads of departments have been authorized to depute limited officials/support staff on Saturday in connection with the holding of special classes. Meanwhile, the VC paid a surprise visit to the PU examination cluster centre for the BA/BSc 2010 annual examination. He inspected examination centres set up for both male and female candidates. Inauguration A students common room and rest area complex was inaugurated by Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College & Jinnah Hospital Prof Javed Akram on Monday. The area has a number of rest rooms attached to facilitate both genders. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Javed Akram reiterated that creating facilities for students of AIMC was a matter of honour for him. The youth must be taken care of today so that they may take of our tomorrow, he said. A large number of students, faculty and staff members present on the occasion and lauded the efforts of the principal in creating an atmosphere conducive to academic endeavours. Exhibition The Government College University (GCU) Fine Arts Department is holding a painting exhibition by Muhammad Shafiq at the GCU Minhas Arts Gallery today (Tuesday). Dr Abbas Famori, Director General Attachie Consulate, Cultural Centre of Islamic Republic of Iran will be the chief guest.
