LAHORE - Regional Office of Immigration and Passport, Abbot Road, Lahore is working without its head since April 3, 2012 to oblige a retired blue-eyed officer, sources told TheNation on Thursday.

Interestingly, another office of the department has two assistant directors. The sources privy to development told that Assistant Director Mohammad Rafiq, who was heading the Regional Immigration and Passport office, Abbot Road, retired on April 2. They said the office remained without proper boss till April 16 and on April 17, an assistant director Iqbal Shahid was appointed there.

It is important to mention here that Iqbal Shahid was working in the regional Office Garden Town, Lahore. But, only after two days, Iqbal Shahid was again transferred to the Regional Immigration and Passport office Garden Town in order to keep top post vacant till Ms Rafiq is posted.

The source said that the move is aimed at to oblige retired assistant director Mohammad Rafiq. They said Mr Rafiq had contacts with top brass of the Ministry of Interior. They said Mohammad Rafiq has been reappointed in National Police Foundation on contract basis. “After joining National Police Foundation, he is trying to get posted in Immigration and Passport office on deputation in the same office from where he had retired,” they added. The sources further said Mohammad Rafiq has bad reputation as a number of inquiries had been conducted against him during his service on charges of corruption.
