Prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding is rocking the entire country as shortfall of electricity has reached 5,500 megawatts.

According to PEPCO spokesman, total power generation from various sources is 9,500 MW against the demand of 15,000 MW.

IPPs are generating 5,115 megawatts and thermal plants are providing 1,422 megawatts of electricity. However, the hydel power generation has reduced to 2,957 megawatts.

The PEPCO spokesman further said that decrease in production is due to shortage of gas and oil supply.

The people are facing at least 12 to 14 hours loadshedding in urban areas and 16 to 18 hours in rural areas.
