KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement legislators, in National Assembly, on Thursday strongly condemned closure of the Thar coal project, at the moment when it was nearing completion.

They termed that it was a anti-public and anti-Pakistan decision and demanded the government to immediately grant funds to complete the Thar coal project on war-footing to provide low-cost power production to the country.

They said the country was facing massive crises of power from the last few years and now the shortfall of electricity had reached 6,000 mega-watt on daily basis.

They further said that the industries and factories of Karachi were suffering terrible situation because of power shortage.

“The projects like Thar coal is essential for the economic and industrial growth of the country.”

The legislators demanded President Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani and Federal Power Minister Naveed Qamar to immediately take notice of the closure of Thar Coal project and exposed influential persons involved in the closure of the project.
