LAHORE – Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz has said that protection of children’s rights was individual and collective responsibility of the society.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of project ‘protection of rights of children engaged in cotton picking in cotton-growing areas of Punjab’ on Thursday, she said social welfare department and other organizations were playing a commendable role in protecting rights of children. Child protection wing of social welfare department arranged the event with the cooperation of UNICEF. Experts from various departments and institutions, provincial secretaries, EDOs, DOs and representatives of international welfare organizations were present.
Zakiya Shahnawaz said that protection of the rights of children was essential as they were future of Pakistan. She said that the aim of the project was to safeguard rights and provision of facilities to children engaged in cotton picking in South Punjab including the areas of Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rajanpur.
