LAHORE – Adyala jail Rawalpindi is the next target of terrorists and Punjab government is planning to shift the prisoners involved in sectarian violence, terrorism and dangerous crimes to other high security jails, well placed sources in Punjab government confided to TheNation on Thursday. Inspector General Prison’s office has sought details of the number of sectarian prisoners populated in different jails of the province. It is worth mentioning here that there was disagreement between Prisons and Punjab Police authorities over the security issue of prisons.

Punjab police representative in Inter provincial meeting held in Islamabad couple of days back was of the view that providing security to the jails was not a responsibility of the Police. Whereas IG prisons was of the view that Jail staff was supposed to look after the inmates and cater to their needs inside the jails, and do not have the training to confront with any terrorist activity.

As per jail sources there were about more than 200 sectarian and terrorist prisoners housed in various jails of the province and they would be shifted to secure locations where heavy contingents of the police, Rangers and FC would be deployed. Prisons department has imposed strict ban on the use of mobile phones inside jails and severe punishment will be awarded any prisoner found in possession of a mobile.
