KARACHI - Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed has assured all support to ensure that funding is readily and regularly available for smooth functioning of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Child Health (NICH) and National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and also for numerous healthcare and postgraduate medical training programmes.

Addressing the 49th annual symposium of JPMC on Thursday, he said the three aforementioned hospitals transferred to provincial health department under the 18th constitutional amendment will not be deprived of their due share and this has been guaranteed to be provided by the federal government in accordance to the share of each of the provinces, besides the NFC award. The minister also assured the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the three hospitals that they too will get raise in their salaries as well as in the allowances accordingly, without any distinction.

Dr Saghir Ahmed said he was fully conscious that JPMC is one of the oldest post graduate medical training centre in the country and in view of the available facilities and tremendous human resource, in terms of teachers and trainers, could be granted university status.

“I am fully conscious that there had been proposals to avail of the infrastructure and human power of JPMC, NICVD AND NICH and turn them into a full-fledged university,” he said.

The minister said he does agree with the proposition but any decision could be made by government, after proper consultation with all stakeholders, and is also needed to be approved by the provincial assembly.

Saghir said a summary of Rs560 million, forwarded by him to raise the salaries of nurses and paramedics of Sindh government hospitals has been approved by the chief minister Qaim Ali Shah and also confirmed by the finance department and will be released to the concerned employees by the end of the current month.

JPMC’s 49th annual conference was jointly organized by three allied institutions i.e. JPMC, NICH and NICVD besides JPMC nursing college and other research cum post graduate training centers of the hospital.
