It is a fact that poverty is a threat to prosperity and Pakistan has such diverse provinces, where some enjoy progress and development while others are steeped in poverty and no progress can be seen. This disparity can lead to dangerous consequences. As the development of Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and other metropolitan cities may be considered essential, so is the progress of other remote and under-developed areas like Gilgit-Baltistan. Government plans to take notice of this fact and Prime Minister has announced a number of development projects, that consist of construction of a tunnel, road, university and a railway track. Among them the construction of Bhasha dam is the mega project. It is an appreciable measure and we all hope that this stance on Gilgit-Baltistan’s development bears fruit.
