KARACHI - Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP) announced favoring Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Sunday in the upcoming by-election of NA-246 whereas Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has vowed to support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

PML-N Sindh President Ismail Raho announced his party’s support to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in by-polls in a meeting with JI delegation comprised of Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, Barjees Ahmed, Muslim Pervez, Abdul Wahab, Munim Zafar Khan and others. PML-N leaders including Sindh Secretary PML-N Senator Nihal Hashmi, Senator Saleem Zia were also present on the occasion.

Ismail Raho said that the PML-N Sindh leadership has extended its support to the JI candidate in by-polls for the sake of prosperity and peace in Karachi, adding that the PML-N will also support JI in its election rallies and public gatherings.

A JUP delegation led by its leader Qazi Ahmed Noorani also met the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami at Idara-e-Noor Haq and assured full support to JI candidate in by-polls.

Speaking at the occasion, Noorani said that the JI has always raised its voice against targeted killings, extortion and terrorism in Karachi, adding that the people of Karachi for last 30years were facing a law and order situation. He appealed the people to vote for JI on April-23 for the larger interest of the city.  

JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman expressed gratitude to the leaderships of PML-N and JUP for extending its support to JI candidate Rashid Naseem in by-polls on NA-246.

He further said that the JI leadership wants to revive the past glory of Karachi, where the people of the city lived with peace and harmony. He said that the victory of JI candidate Rashid Naseem will start a new era of development and progress in Karachi.

On the other side, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) decided to support PTI candidate Imran Ismail in NA-246 by-elections. MWM leaders announced the decisions at a press conference at Wehdat House Karachi on Sunday evening after meeting with PTI delegation. Addressing the media, MWM leader Ali Hussain Naqvi said that various parties including MQM, PTI and others have contacted the party seeking support in the by-polls. He said after consultation the MWM has decided to support PTI in the by-polls. On the occasion PTI leaders including Arif Alvi, Firdous Shamim and PTI candidate Imran Ismail expressed their gratitude to the leaderships of MWM for its support.
