ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has ordered the verification of a complaint against Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani over corruption allegations against them.

 The anti-graft body chief ordered the NAB Karachi Director-General to verify the complaint against Durrani and Sindh Assembly Secretary Ghulam Muhammad Umar Farooq for their alleged involvement in illegal appointments in the Sindh Assembly.

The NAB DG had also been directed to verify another complaint against Durrani for having assets beyond known sources of income.

The NAB chairman also directed to verify the complaint against Saad Rafique and others on charges of generous expenditures on purchasing 4,500 horsepower (HP) locomotives, track maintenance machines and leasing out a precious railway land in Lahore to favourites on low rates and in violation of rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the NAB has filed a reference in the accountability court Karachi against former secretary land utilization and member Revenue Board Sindh Shah Zarshamon, who is at large, on charges of illegal allotment of 530 acres.

Similarly, the NAB chairman has sought a progress report on an investigation and four inquiries being conducted against Zarshamon. The NAB has decided to write a letter to Interpol to bring Zarshamon back from abroad. The NAB has also filed a reference in the accountability court Karachi against former director general Sindh Building Control Authority Manzoor Qadir, who is at large, and it was decided that a letter will be written to Interpol to bring him back from abroad.

NAB ARRESTS MAN FOR CHEATING PEOPLE

Staff Reporter from Peshawar adds: National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday arrested Qazi Anwar, owner of Qazi Trade Centre, Peshawar for allegedly cheating people and depriving them of millions of rupees.

As per details, the accused and others in the garb of fake construction business collected money from innocent people on the promise to handover to them developed shops in the Qazi Trade Centre situated on Ring Road near Pashta Khara Chowk in the provincial metropolis.

The accused persons advertised the project widely to attract investment in the business without having ownership of the land identified for the plaza nor having NOC from Peshawar Development Authority. Due to prime location of the plaza, scores of innocent people invested millions of rupees with the accused. At the end, the accused neither handed over possession of the shops nor returned back their deposited amount.

The accused would be produced before the Accountability Court for obtaining his physical remand into NAB custody.
