When will the agriculture of Pakistan will develop enough to do the miracle our telecom sector has done? The country had moved from being a food surplus state to a food deficient state. The common man is the biggest victim of this gross mismanagement of our food economy. The global agricultural crisis is on its way to becoming a highly political one. Countries that cannot feed themselves are frantically importing food so that their citizens do not go hungry. Hungry citizens are more prone to overturn governments. What is really sad is that that a lot of folks around the world who are still working hard working full-time will still not be able to make ends meet. With prices of fuel going up and businesses laying-off to cut costs, a lot of people will not be able to put food on the table. Food is the greatest issue of the day. The world needs a 'Grow More Food' campaign now. -SITWAT HASEEN, Karachi, via e-mail, August 6.
