Ali Gilani's grandson in illegal custody for past many days

In occupied Kashmir, Ahtishamul Haq Gilani, the grandson of veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, is in police custody for past many days. According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police arrested Ahtishamul Haq Gilani, son of Zahoorul Haq Gilani, on July 31 near his residence at Bagh-e-Mehtab. The family sources said that though the other youth arrested along with Ahtishamul Haq were released, however, he had been implicated in frivolous cases. "I had gone to meet my son at the Sadder Police Station. The policemen there told me that if I wanted to save him from Public Safety Act, I would have to talk with a senior police officer over phone. I categorically refuted and told the policemen that even if my son was kept behind bars for seven years, I won't talk to any officer for his release," Zahoor-ul-Haq said. He said that after this, the police not only booked his son in stone pelting but also attempt to murder case. "He has been severely tortured in custody," the family said. On the other hand, the spokesman of the forum patronised by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement strongly denounced the illegal detention of the grandson of the veteran leader. He pointed out that the arrest was aimed at breaking the resolve of Syed Ali Gilani to continue Kashmiris' struggle for right to self-determination. He deplored that occupation authorities were not releasing Ahtishamul Haq despite court orders.
