LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has warned the Ministry of Defence to submit its reply, taking from the agencies under its control, maximum by September 3 about whereabouts of missing Ijaz Hussain, a factory owner of Lahore. However, if the reply is not submitted till September 3 the court will summon secretary ministry of defence in the court for explanation the CJ said. It is worth mentioning here that Detenue Ijaz Hussain along with a worker of his factory namely Qari Obaidullha was allegedly picked by agencies on allegations of having links with Talibans. During proceedings, M Ashraf Khan, deputy attorney general, informed the court that reply of the defence ministry was yet awaited and the ministry had requested for more time. The CJ gave time to ministry till September 3 with hard directions. Before this an additional advocate general submitting reply from home department of Punjab government stated that home department did not issue any order for detention of missing Ijaz. The chief justice was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Mst Noureen Ijaz, wife of Ijaz Hussain, for recovery of her husband contending that her husband was a law abiding citizen and he had no links with any religious group or Taliban. Noureen, mother of three children, in her petition submitted that her husband owned a business/factory in Kot Lakhpat, Lahore which manufactured rubber parts. She said only 15 workers/employees worked at the factory and one worker namely Qari Obaidullha was perhaps wanted to agencies. On July 6, four men in plain clothes came to the factory at about 3pm and asked her husband about Qari Obaidullha who was not present at that time in the factory. Afterwards they asked her husband Ijaz Hussain to ask Qari Obaidullha to come to the factory. Then Ijaz Hussain phoned Qari Obaidullha and asked him to come in factory. When he came, the officials in plain clothes took away both Qari Obaidullah and her husband and since then nothing could be known about whereabouts of her husband and the Qari. She said on July 8, 2010 a story was published in the newspapers that two Talibans including Qari Obaidullha had been arrested from Azadi Chowk, Lahore. She said she did not know any thing but her husband was innocent and he had no links with any religious groups including Taliban. In her petition, she flayed the role of security agencies saying that they showed fake efficiency by arresting innocent people to show their performance. On last hearing, ministry of interior submitting a reply about Ijaz Hussain stated that he was not detained by any of 15 departments/agencies working under administrative control of ministry of interior.
