LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday sought a report and comments from Federal Secretary Interior till August 26 on a petition seeking directions for constituting a trustworthy and independent flood relief commission. The CJ passed the order on a petition filed by Muhammad Ashraf Gondal in which he submitted that floods inundated huge area and a large number of people had been affected by the floods. The petitioner contended that during the recent visit of UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon, one of his team members Elizabeth Yakir reported that there was a big difficulty in the way of agencies for getting funds due to bad repute of Pakistan. He submitted that PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif approached Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and he proposed that a trustworthy flood relief commission be constituted but no decision was taken in this regard yet. He submitted that national and international donors had donated funds to Pakistan for rehabilitation of 2005 Earthquake affectees and National Disaster Management Authority was set up to accomplish the task. However, it failed to satisfy donors and now they were hesitating to help. The petitioner prayed the court to issue directions for constituting flood relief commission which might be directed to submit explanatory report about utilisation of donation in the present flood and 2005 earthquake. After hearing arguments, the CJ directed Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Ashraf Khan to get report and para-wise comments from Secretary Interior till August 26.
