QUETTA – Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express on Sunday escaped a disaster after explosives planted with the track near Kolpur railway station in Bolan district, some 30 kilometres away from Quetta, were defused.

According to local administration, Jaffar Express was heading towards its destination from Quetta when its driver witnessed a suspicion object planted with track near Kolpur station and timely stopped the train.

Levies personnel and other officials of local administration rushed to site after being informed and they confirmed that a rocket shell was fitted to the track. Upon which Bomb Disposal Squad was called in from Quetta which defused the device. “Fifteen to 20 kilogram explosives were attached with the track,” an official of the bomb disposal squad told The Nation, adding that if the train had hit the device it could have caused massive destruction.

The track was cleared after two hours work and the train later left for its destination.

Local administration has registered a case against unidentified people. However, no group has claimed responsibility for planting explosives with the track so far.

It may be mentioned here that during the recent years many attacks had been carried out on trains and tracks were exploded in which many people lost their lives while Baloch armed groups claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, four people were killed and three others wounded in two separate incidents of firing in Khuzdar and Khanozai parts of Balochistan on Sunday.

In the first incident, three people were killed and three others suffered bullet wounds in Ornach area of Khuzdar district when an armed clash broke out between two rival groups. Both groups used sophisticated weapons while targeting each other’s positions.

A heavy contingent of local law-enforcement agencies rushed to the site after the incident to control the situation and moved the dead and the injured to a hospital where one of the deceased was identified as Muhammad Yousuf.

Local administration officials said that the incident occurred because of an old enmity.

In another incident, bandits killed a person in Khanozai area during a bid to snatch a motorbike.

Azad Khan was moving towards city when armed men intercepted him at gunpoint. They opened fire on him when he offered resistance. As a result, he sustained serious injuries and died before reaching a hospital. The bandits fled from the scene along with the motorbike.

Police have registered a case and launched a search to arrest the accused persons.
